52 – Step 7 Overview

Step 7 – Humbly asked Him to remove our shortcomings.

Christina’s Version

We sincerely asked for our character defects to be taken away.

Personalize It

I turned to a higher power with humility, asking for help in letting go of the flaws that hold me back.

Step 7 Truth I Hold Onto

I won’t mistake humility for humiliation. These steps are meant to help me see myself clearly and live in harmony with the world—not to tear me down or make me feel small.

Step 7 Concepts

Be Humble

  • We come to understand that placing ourselves at the top of the heap—or the bottom—creates disharmony with ourselves, others, and our higher power.
  • It’s the strength to stand in truth without shrinking or dominating.

Clarity and courage to face the difficult parts of your character.

  • Before doing an inventory, we may have focused only on what others did wrong, without recognizing what we did. Now, we simply ask for clarity to see our shortcomings—and the courage to face them.

Acknowledge your limitations while committing to do better

  • If it was through sheer force of will that we never practice our negative behaviors then we would have broken the habit already. We start to practice more healthy and better ways to respond to life while also praying and meditating on its removal.

Final Reflection

Step 7 reminds me that growth doesn’t come from beating myself up—it comes from being honest, staying humble, and asking for help. I don’t have to fix everything overnight or pretend I’ve got it all figured out. I just have to be willing to let go of the stuff that’s holding me back. I need to trust that God, as I understand Him, is walking with me through the process of change.
